
The phrase ‘……死人了!’ (……sǐ rén le!) can be used after some single character adjectives, and is frequently used by native speakers. The character ‘死’ (sǐ) literally means ‘death’ and ‘人’ (rén) means ‘person’, when the phrase is used after some single character adjectives it brings the sensation into a intolerable stage. For example, the adjective ‘饿’(è) which means ‘hungry’, when ‘饿’(è) is added into the phrase it becomes ‘饿死人了!’(è sǐ rén le) which means ‘starving to death!’.
